What size of XXL painting should you choose for a large wall or above a sofa?
Start from the dimensions of the wall or the furniture. Above a sofa, aim for a work that occupies about two thirds of the width of the furniture: for a 3-metre sofa, a painting 180 to 200 cm wide creates the right balance. On a large bare stretch of wall, do not be afraid of the oversized format: a canvas 150 cm high or more becomes a genuine focal point and asserts the character of the room. Let the work breathe by keeping space around it, and always favour a piece that is clearly larger rather than too small, which would get lost on the wall.
How do you hang a very large painting safely?
A large format is heavy: it should be fixed on two hanging points rather than one, with anchors suited to the nature of the wall (Molly anchors for plasterboard, hammer-in anchors for brick or concrete). Place the centre of the work at eye level, around 1.45 m from the floor, or slightly higher above a sofa to clear the backrest. Use a spirit level for alignment, and work in pairs to handle the canvas. Our works are delivered ready to hang; directed lighting will fully reveal the texture and relief of the oversized format.
