Born on 30 July 1947 in Thal, Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger first made his name as the most decorated bodybuilder in history — a seven-time Mr Olympia — before setting off to conquer Hollywood with an extraordinary physique and determination.
Conan the Barbarian (1982) brought him to prominence, but it was the T-800 of Terminator (1984), directed by James Cameron, that turned him into a global icon: the line “I’ll be back”, the dark glasses and the relentless walk became the stuff of legend.
