About this photo
Thunderball: Adolfo Celi and Claudine Auger in the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas
Shot in 1965 in the Bahamas, this iconic photo shoot from *Thunderball* captures Adolfo Celi as Emilio Largo and Claudine Auger as Domino Derval. Produced by Kevin McClory and directed by Terence Young, this fourth installment of the Bond saga was the first to make extensive use of underwater sets, revolutionizing the action genre with its spectacular aquatic sequences shot in the crystal-clear waters of Nassau.
Thunderball became the franchise's biggest box-office hit upon its release, grossing $141 million worldwide. Claudine Auger, the first French Bond Girl, had won the title of Miss France 1958 before embarking on her film career. Adolfo Celi, a multilingual Italian actor, had to be dubbed in English despite his memorable performance as Sean Connery charismatic antagonist.
A truly exceptional piece that captures the fatal elegance and underwater glamour of the golden age of spy films.
