This photograph immortalizes the four Ghostbusters in front of their legendary headquarters, the former Hook & Ladder Company 8 fire station located at 14 North Moore Street in Tribeca. Directed by Ivan Reitman in 1984, the film was initially conceived for John Belushi before his tragic death, prompting Dan Aykroyd to rewrite the screenplay for Bill Murray.

With a budget of 30 million dollars, Ghostbusters grossed 295 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the second biggest success of 1984. Harold Ramis, co-writer and actor, drew on his studies in psychology to create the character of Egon Spengler. The film propelled Ernie Hudson, initially considered for a more important role, toward a prolific career with over 200 film and television credits.
