In "High Plains Drifter" (1973), Clint Eastwood and stars as The Stranger, a mysterious rider with unclear motives. Filmed in the ghost town of Mono Lake, California, this twilight western marks Eastwood’s second directorial effort following “Play Misty for Me.” The director had an entire town built, which he then had painted blood red, creating a gothic atmosphere unique to the genre. Clint Eastwood’s performance here reveals an antihero darker than the Man with the Bridge.
