Batman - Adam West and Burt Ward in front of the legendary Batmobile
This iconic photo immortalises Adam West and Burt Ward on the set of the 1966 Batman series, created by William Dozier. Shot at the 20th Century Fox studios, this image captures the duo in front of the authentic Batmobile, a Lincoln Futura customised by George Barris in just three weeks. The series revolutionised the television approach to superheroes with its deliberately camp tone and its colourful on-screen "POW!" effects.
Batman was a phenomenal success from its very first broadcast, generating 120 episodes over three seasons and propelling Adam West to the rank of pop icon. The series directly inspired the 1966 Batman film, which took in more than 1.7 million dollars at the box office. The cultural influence of this version remains immense, defining the Batman aesthetic for an entire generation and inspiring numerous contemporary reinterpretations.
A timeless piece that celebrates the golden age of the Dark Knight on television.
