A print is any work on paper pulled from a matrix — a lithographic stone, a copper plate, a woodblock — which makes it possible to produce a numbered limited edition while preserving the artist's original gesture. An original print is not a reproduction: it is an impression intended and controlled by the artist, issued as a numbered limited edition. The numbering — for example 12/50 — indicates the position of the impression and the total size of the edition; the pencil signature in the margin certifies its authenticity. Each work ships with its certificate of authenticity. At the gallery you can view it before buying; we ship it by tracked and insured delivery across Europe, flat and in reinforced packaging that protects the paper.

What is a signed lithograph or an original print?

What is the difference between an original print and a reproduction (poster)?
A poster is an industrial reproduction of an existing work: it is printed in large numbers, with no involvement from the artist, and holds no original value. An original print, by contrast, is born directly from the matrix created by the artist: the edition is limited, each sheet is signed in pencil and numbered, and the whole is certified. It is this combination — original gesture, limited edition, signature and certificate — that distinguishes a genuine work on paper from a simple decorative print.
What does the numbering of a print mean (e.g. 12/50)?
The numbering, written in pencil in the margin, states the position of the impression and the size of the edition. “12/50” means this is the twelfth impression of an edition limited to fifty sheets in total. The smaller the edition, the rarer the work. You may also see notations such as “A.P.” (artist's proof), off-series impressions reserved for the artist. This numbering, together with the signature and certificate of authenticity, guarantees that you are acquiring a numbered, traceable original.
How do you frame, preserve and ship a work on paper?
A work on paper should be protected from direct light and humidity: opt for framing under glass with a neutral-board mat, which keeps the sheet away from the glass and preserves it over time. Avoid full sunlight so the colours stay intact. We ship every print flat, in reinforced rigid packaging, by tracked and insured delivery across Europe; you can also collect your work in person at the gallery in Elche.
