About this photo
Roger Moore in *Live and Let Die* – San Monique Island and the legendary boat chase
Filmed in Jamaica and Louisiana in 1973, *Live and Let Die* marked Roger Moore’s debut as James Bond the direction of Guy Hamilton. This iconic scene set on the fictional island of San Monique reveals a more laid-back Bond, as Moore asserted his distinctive style in the face of producers Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, who still doubted his ability to succeed Sean Connery.
With a budget of $7 million, the film grossed $161.8 million at the global box office and launched Moore into seven consecutive Bond films. Paul McCartney’s soundtrack became the first Bond theme to reach number one on the U.S. charts. Jane Seymour made her Hollywood debut as Solitaire, while Yaphet Kotto delivered a memorable performance as Mr. Big.
Moore's effortless elegance captures the essence of a timeless Bond in the Caribbean.
