About this photo
Brigitte Bardot the set of Shalako
This rare photograph captures Brigitte Bardot the filming of *Shalako* in 1968, an unconventional Western directed by Edward Dmytryk. Shot against the arid landscapes of Spain, this production marked the first collaboration between BB and Sean Connery, then at the height of his James Bond fame. The French actress, usually associated with romantic comedies, surprises here in a Western role, playing a European aristocrat lost in the American West. This Brigitte Bardot reveals a little-known facet of her talent.
Despite a substantial budget and the presence of two international stars, *Shalako* enjoyed only moderate success at the box office, grossing approximately $2 million. The film nevertheless remains a fascinating testament to Bardot’s artistic evolution, as she sought to diversify her roles prior to her retirement from film in 1973.
A truly exceptional piece that captures BB's timeless grace in a Western setting.
