The film. A classic of the prison-break genre, The Great Escape (John Sturges, 1963) owes part of its legend to its motorcycle sequence. Steve McQueen, a keen off-road racer, performed much of the riding himself, except for the famous jump entrusted to his friend, stuntman Bud Ekins.
