About this photo
Steve McQueen his legendary Triumph TR6 on the streets of Hollywood
This iconic photograph captures Steve McQueen wheel of his personal Triumph TR6 in 1966, during a photo shoot organized by photographer John Dominis for Life Magazine. The actor, nicknamed "The King of Cool," had personally modified this TR6 with a supercharged engine and reinforced suspension for his nighttime drives on Mulholland Drive.
In 1966, McQueen was at the height of his fame following the success of "The Great Escape" (1963), which had grossed $11.7 million at the global box office. That same year, he starred in "The Sand Pebbles" directed by Robert Wise, a performance that earned him his only Oscar nomination for Best Actor. His genuine passion for mechanics and speed shines through in every role he played, making him the perfect embodiment of the American rebel of the 1960s.
A piece that captures the very essence of freedom and rebellion embodied by the eternal King of Cool.
