About this photo
James Gandolfini in *The Sopranos* at the Bada Bing!
This photograph captures James Gandolfini in one of the most iconic settings from *The Sopranos*, the Bada Bing!, filmed at the real-life Satin Dolls strip club in New Jersey. David Chase, the series’ creator, had specifically chosen this location for its raw authenticity, and it was here that Gandolfini delivered his most intense performances as Tony Soprano. The actor had, in fact, developed a special connection with this set, spending hours there between takes to immerse himself in his character’s complex psyche.
Airing from 1999 to 2007, *The Sopranos* revolutionized television and catapulted Gandolfini to iconic status. The series generated over $10 billion in revenue for HBO and won 21 Emmy Awards. Gandolfini, alongside Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco, created one of the most complex antiheroes in television history, forever transforming the landscape of drama series.
