About this photo
Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren face attacks from mechanical birds
This photograph captures Alfred Hitchcock directing Tippi Hedren during the filming of the attack scenes in *The Birds* (1963). The Master of Suspense had commissioned Ub Iwerks, a former Walt Disney collaborator, to build sophisticated mechanical birds in order to create groundbreaking special effects without the use of computers.
With a budget of $2.5 million, "The Birds" grossed over $11 million at the global box office. This psychological thriller, based on the short story by Daphne du Maurier, marked the film debut of Tippi Hedren, whom Hitchcock discovered in a television commercial. The film revolutionized animal special effects and had a lasting influence on the horror genre.
This fine art print is hand-framed in a limited edition of 30 copies. Printed on fine art paper in a 70x50 cm format, it is enhanced by a solid wood frame and protected by 3mm crystal glass. Each print is authenticated with a certificate and a hologram, then shipped within 48 hours.
