About this photo
Alain Delon in *Plein Soleil* - The Villa Malaparte in Capri
This photograph captures Alain Delon in *Plein Soleil*, filmed at the legendary Villa Malaparte on the island of Capri. René Clément was directing a young 25-year-old actor who would go on to become a legend. The shoot was marked by Delon’s fascination with the revolutionary architecture of this blood-red villa, perched on the Italian cliffs, which serves as the perfect setting for Tom Ripley’s psychological manipulation.
*Plein Soleil* drew more than 5 million viewers in France and catapulted Delon to international stardom. This adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s *The Talented Mr. Ripley* revealed a magnetic actor capable of embodying a poisonous beauty. René Clément crafted a sun-drenched thriller that would have a lasting influence on French cinema, paving the way for future masterpieces by Melville and Visconti.
