About this photo
Alain Delon in *Mélodie en sous-sol* - The Criminal Elegance of the Palais de la Méditerranée
Filmed in 1962 at the legendary Palais de la Méditerranée, Henri Verneuil’s *Mélodie en sous-sol* showcases Alain Delon at the height of his charisma. This production by Robert Dorfmann marked the first collaboration between Delon and Jean Gabin, a legendary duo in French cinema. Filming in the casino’s Art Deco salons created a unique atmosphere, perfectly captured in this iconic photograph.
With 4.8 million admissions in France, the film cemented Delon’s status as an international star following *Plein Soleil*. This film by José Giovanni adapts his own novel, creating a sophisticated crime thriller that would have a lasting influence on the genre. The Verneuil-Delon collaboration would go on to produce three more hits, establishing a benchmark filmography for the 1960s.
This fine art photograph is hand-framed in our studios and limited to just 30 copies.
