About this photo

James Dean in *Giant* - The Reata Ranch in Texas

Filmed on the vast plains of Texas in 1955, *Giant* marks James Dean’s final role before his tragic death. George Stevens directed this epic film in which Dean played Jett Rink, an ambitious oil worker facing off against the giants of the Reata Ranch. Filming of this masterpiece wrapped up a few weeks before the actor’s fatal accident on the road to Salinas.

With a massive budget of $5.4 million, *Giant* grossed over $12 million at the box office and earned George Stevens the Oscar for Best Director. Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor rounded out the legendary cast in this adaptation of Edna Ferber’s novel. The film received ten Oscar nominations, cementing Dean’s cinematic legacy posthumously.

Capture the intensity of Dean’s gaze in his most ambitious role, a testament to his enduring genius.
