About this photo
Steve McQueen his legendary Jaguar XKSS at his ranch in California
This iconic photograph captures Steve McQueen his Jaguar XKSS in 1963, one of only 16 cars produced before the fire at the Jaguar factory in Coventry. McQueen, a passionate racing enthusiast, had purchased this rare model for $5,000, a considerable sum at the time. The XKSS was actually a road-going version of the Jaguar D-Type that dominated Le Mans, making McQueen one of the few owners of this mechanical legend.
At the height of his fame following *The Great Escape* (1963) and before *Bullitt* (1968), McQueen perfectly embodied the fusion of cinema and motorsports. His films grossed over $500 million worldwide, cementing his status as the "King of Cool." This period marked the peak of a career where speed and cinema merged, with McQueen performing his own most spectacular car stunts.
An unforgettable encounter between Hollywood's coolest guy and the world's rarest Jaguar.
