About this photo

Schindler's List - Liam Neeson plays Oskar Schindler at the enamel factory

Filmed in the actual enamel factory in Krakow where Oskar Schindler actually employed his Jewish workers, Steven Spielberg cast Liam Neeson after seeing him on stage in "Anna Christie" on Broadway. The Irish actor, initially reluctant, spent months preparing by studying the testimonies of Schindler’s survivors. This performance earned him his first Oscar nomination.

With a budget of $22 million, Spielberg’s masterpiece grossed $322 million worldwide and won seven Oscars in 1994. Ralph Fiennes portrays the terrifying Amon Göth, while Ben Kingsley plays Itzhak Stern. The film ranks ninth on the AFI’s list of the greatest American films.

A work that honors the memory of a man who saved more than 1,200 lives.
