About this photo
Rocky on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art
This image captures one of the most iconic scenes in American cinema, filmed in 1976 on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Director John G. Avildsen had originally planned to shoot this morning run in a single take, but Sylvester Stallone on doing it several times. The actor had written the screenplay in three and a half days after attending the Muhammad Ali vs. Chuck Wepner fight. Check out our collection to Sylvester Stallone and the legends of Rocky.
Produced for just $1 million by Robert Chartoff and Irwin Winkler, Rocky $225 million at the global box office and won three Oscars, including Best Picture. This groundbreaking saga turned Stallone into a global icon and spawned a franchise worth over $1.7 billion. The film also launched Carl Weathers’ career in the role of Apollo Creed.
A truly exceptional piece that captures the fighting spirit and determination of cinema’s most inspiring boxer.
