About this photo

Brigitte Bardot the set of *Doctor at Sea*

This photograph captures Brigitte Bardot the filming of "Doctor at Sea" in 1955, the sequel to the famous "Doctor in the House." Directed by Ralph Thomas for Rank Organisation Studios, this film marks one of Brigitte Bardot's first international appearances Brigitte Bardot alongside Dirk Bogarde. The French actress, then 21 years old, was discovering the British Pinewood Studios, portraying Hélène Colbert with a natural elegance that would soon captivate the entire world.

"Doctor at Sea" was a notable commercial success in the United Kingdom, cementing the "Doctor" franchise launched by Betty Box. For Bardot, this role preceded her breakthrough in Roger Vadim's "And God Created Woman" the following year. Ralph Thomas, a master of British popular cinema, directed a cast that also featured Brenda de Banzie and James Robertson Justice, creating a nautical comedy that left its mark on the 1950s.

A moment of cinematic brilliance that already hints at the French icon who would go on to conquer Hollywood.
